In 2012, on the background of the Olympic and Paralympic games, the government hoped the legacy of the games would be to inspire all young children to participate more in sporting activities.
To support school to do this Sport Premium was introduced. Sport Premium is an amount of money which the government has agreed to allocate to schools with the aim to increase the quality & breadth of PE & Sport provision and increasing participation in PE & Sport. The funding amount schools receive is based upon the number of children of primary age the school has.
At Kelvin Grove in the school year 2015/16 we were given £8500 by the government to help in supporting children with increasing their sporting ability and participation.
The Sports Premium funding is ring-fenced and can only be spent on PE, to improve the quality/participation of sport provided to children within school.
We at Kelvin Grove pride ourselves in delivering a wide range of PE and sporting activities, which aim to engage and inspire all our pupils to succeed and excel in sport and become physically confident. Sports taught are varied, both during the school day and as extra-curricular clubs.
At Kelvin Grove we aim to use the funding for:
Enrolment in the Premium SSP(School Sports Partnership), which enables participation in a fully organised annual programme of competitions/tournaments/festivals.
Enrolment in the ASA swimming charter to focus on whole year swimming lessons.
Participation and inclusion opportunities for Special Educational Needs & Disabilities children.
Give Most Able children more chance to expand their expertise in PE.
Provide places in clubs for Special Educational Needs & Disabilities children.
To provide cover to release staff for Continuous Professional Development upskill and improve staff professional learning.
SSP Network meetings to support PE Co-ordinators in their role developing PE & sport.
To increase the range and type of sport “experience” which we offer our children.
Educating children on nutrition and a healthy lifestyle by running a Change 4 Life Club
Audit and purchase up to date PE scheme for the coming year.
Purchase or repair equipment required for sporting activities.
To release PE co-ordinator to enable participation/assessment of sporting activities.
To enable Kelvin Grove to strive to participate in the Sainsbury’s School Games Award, which is a national programme that aims to motivate and inspire millions of young people across the country to take part in more competitive sport.
